Hey hey! It’s nice to talk to you again! It’s been about a month now since my first publication and let me just say, it has been a JOURNEY to say the least. Remembering to talk about my book to random strangers and always carrying around some type material to give in case I’m in a hurry (which as a mom of 4, that’s most of the time.) When I do get the opportunity to have a full conversation, I am often asked, “So, what’s your writing process? How does it come to you?” Some writers have a special place. They have to write at the same desk, the same corner in the coffee shop, or in comfy pajamas and the perfect heated blanket. Every writer has their special way.
I however, have written in bed, in my office. I’ve sat down to write at coffee shops, and at my daughter’s dance practice. I’ve used my phone, my tablet, laptop, and even my favorite; simple pen and paper.
By this point, you may be thinking, “ okay so you don’t need anything specific, the words just come to you from anywhere, at any time, huh? Negative!
True, the place and time doesn’t help or hinder. However, my secret…the music. Not just any kind of music, it was imparitive for my music to match the mood of my heart. When it did, the words flowed like a song. From beginning to end, ‘The One Who Brought Peace’ was written entirely to Neo soul and the sound tracks of an amazing guitarist named AJ Ghent and his singing guitar. ( This is not a pluggin for advertisement. This is a true story, lol.)
When I played the right music, my creativity flowed, and formed into a story. One day, I looked up, and the story was complete. Funny truth, as I started getting ideas for book two, I tried to turn on the same music, and nothing… No flow, nothing. Once again, I was on a diligent search for the music that would unlock the flow of my heart and travel to my fingers.
So, friend…what does it for you? What do you need? Do you have to be anywhere? What matters for your creativity to bloom and bear fruit from the amazing creativity in you?
